Join us for a full-day, hands-on workshop where you’ll design and make your own pair of hand-stitched leather trainers from scratch. Guided by guest tutor Clair — an experienced accessories and footwear designer who has worked with brands such as Irregular Choice Shoes and her own label — you’ll learn the skills to create something truly unique and wearable.
Whether you’re completely new to leatherwork or looking to expand your skills, this is a fun, creative and highly rewarding experience.
For just £195, we’ll guide you step-by-step to create your own pair of trainers. A 50% holding fee (£97.50) secures your place, with the balance of £97.50 due a few days before the course begins. Please refer to our T&Cs for rescheduling policies.

Course Details - Expert Guidance

This workshop is a brilliant introduction to leather footwear making. You’ll be guided step-by-step through the process of creating your own pair of trainers using a carefully developed kit and professional techniques.
Clair brings a wealth of industry knowledge, combining design expertise with practical making skills, so you’ll leave not only with your finished trainers but also a deeper understanding of how they’re constructed.

Design Your Trainers

You’ll have full creative control over your final pair:

Choose your style
  • Low or high rise trainers
  • Clean, classic or more playful designs
Choose your colours & materials

Single colour or two-tone options. A mix of leather finishes including:

  •   Chrome tanned leather - bright colours
  •   Metallics
  •   Vegetable tanned leather - traditonal colours
  •   Black or tan classics
  •   Hair-on and printed leathers (including leopard or polka dot styles)
Customise the details
  • Bright or classic lace options
  • Thread colour choices
  • Optional backstrap details
Sole colour options
  • Gum/ Natural
  • White
  • Black
Selecting your shoe size - At the checkout you will be asked what shoe size you require and what sole colour. Soles are unisex European sizing and come with a very compfy inner sole for support. 
What You’ll Learn
Throughout the day, you’ll be introduced to key leatherworking and footwear construction techniques, including:
  • Understanding leather types and how to work with them
  • Pattern assembly and trainer construction
  • Hand-stitching techniques for strength and durability
  • Attaching soles without glue using traditional methods
  • Finishing techniques for a professional result
What’s Included
We provide everything you need to make your trainers:
  • Leather for your chosen design
  • Soles and cushioned insoles with arch support
  • Printed pattern
  • Needles and waxed and nylon bonded thread
  • Eyelets and laces
Our soles are made with a high natural rubber content and are designed to be long-lasting and repairable — your trainers can be re-soled in the future if needed.

Class Structure

  • Small Class Sizes: With a maximum of 5 students per session, you’ll receive plenty of 1-on-1 attention.
  • Teachers - Guest teacher accessories designer Clair Mckinney-Williams teaches this course
  • Hours: Classes run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a 45-minute lunch break. Lunch is cooked freshly at the studio.

  • Lunch is included - we cook for you here at the studio. We usually prepare jacket potatoes, sandwiches, salads, and a selection of cheeses and meats.

    If you have any specific dietary requirements, please let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate you. You are also very welcome to bring your own lunch if you prefer.

  • Snacks/refreshments - Tea, coffee, and biscuits available throughout the day.

Feel free to bring a notepad and camera to document your progress!
